3.2.2 Type 1, item II, Fork. Forks shall have the shapes shown on figure 2 and shall conform to dimensions shown in table II. Shank and tines shall have an average Rockwell hardness not less than B85 (see 4.7.2.2). All edges shall be rounded and smooth and the back of the handle shall be concave in accordance with the manufacturer’s standard practice. The width and thickness of tines shall taper and shall be pointed at the ends. Inside edges of tines shall be finished so as to keep top and bottom inside edges well rounded.
3.2.3 Item III, Spoons. Spoons shall be of the shapes shown on figures 3 through 7 and shall conform to dimensions specified in tables III and through VII. The shanks of spoons shall have an average Rockwell hardness not less than B85 (see 4.7.2.3). All edges of handles and bowls shall be rounded and smooth. The back of the spoon handles shall be concave in accordance with the manufacturer’s standard practice.
3.3 Type 2 flatware. Type 2 flatware dimensions shall be as follows:

1. Thickness is constant throughout the length of the item except for fork
tines.
Shanks, tines and bowls shall have a minimum Rockwell hardness of B85 when
tested as specified in 4.7.2.2 or 4.7.2.3, as applicable. All edges shall be
broken by grinding, coining, tumbling or vibrating. Shanks shall be beaded,
concaved, or stiffened in accordance with the manufacturers’ standard practice.
Fork tines shall be tapered and inside edges of the tines shall be ground,
coined or formed so as to keep top and bottom inside edges well rounded.
3.4 Finish. After fabrication, flatware shall be free of all rough and
protruding edges. Type I knives, forks, and spoons shall be given a No.7
commercial finish or a bright or mirror finish on all surfaces except exterior
edges and between the fork tines. Type 2 flatware shall be given a bright or
mirror finish on all surfaces and edges except between fork tines. All flatware
shall be free of discoloration and stains.
