COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STIRRING STICK, BEVERAGE (Wood)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description for all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (cid) covers one size of wooden beverage stirrer.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. The stirring stick shall be made from either gumwood, white birch, or rock maple. The dimensions of the stirring stick shall be as listed below:
Length- 5-1/4 inches minimum (133 mm)
Width- 0.187 inch minimum (4.8 mm)
Thickness- 0.036 inch minimum (0.9 mm)
The stirring stick shall be made with the grain of the wood running in the same direction as the long axis and shall have a smooth finish. The ends of the stirrer shall be either rounded or square. The stirrer shall have no objectionable odor or taste.
2.2 Workmanship. The finished stirring stick shall be clean, free from surface checks, rough edges, splinters, and any other defects which may affect appearance or serviceability.
2.3 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within tolerances specified and all other requirements of this document are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
3.1 FDA requirements. The wood used for the stirring stick shall conform to the applicable requirements of Food and Drug Administration, Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Subchapter B.
